Essential qualifications, skills and experience Lead responsibility for the embassy website and social media platforms. Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in both English and French Excellent interpersonal skills Strong links in the media, including TV, radio, print and social media. Experience in producing innovative and creative social media and video content. Ability to work to tight deadlines and multi-task effectively. Good team-working skills and the ability to develop productive relationships with others. Fluent in French and English Desirable qualifications, skills and experience Media/journalism/communications or relevant qualification Familiarity with UK culture Experience in designing visuals for social media and producing videos Strong copywriting skills and experience of writing press notices and other written materials

Mission

The British Embassy in Dakar is looking for a dynamic, creative and proactive individual to join our team. We are seeking someone who is passionate about communications, has a strong media network, and is interested in working in an international environment. The successful candidate will work on developing and implementing the Embassy’s strategic communication plan across a wide range of campaigns and thematic initiatives. The main responsibilities of this role are: raising the profile of the UK’s work in Senegal and Guinea-Bissau, developing and implementing the Embassy’s communications strategy, planning the annual communications calendar, creating and developing creative and innovative content for traditional and social media (including for the Ambassador), being the focal point for UK and regional communications leads, maintaining a network of key communications and media partners, and organising communications for events and visits. The jobholder will have autonomy for the day-to-day running of embassy communications across our platforms, reporting to the Head of Political and Comms Team. Expect to get stuck in and contribute ideas. Prepare to learn a lot, including about how diplomatic missions function. This is a unique chance to be engaged in an international environment, take ownership of a communications strategy and activities, and learn about diplomacy. Alongside delivering the communications activities, you will learn from and work with British diplomats, including the Ambassador. Roles and responsibilities Help develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy for Senegal. Develop a forward looking programme of activities to map out upcoming communications priorities and manage workflow. Build a strong network of external comms and media relations and uses these contacts to promote UK public messages. Design and implement comms campaigns and activities, collaborating with teams across the embassy and UK to communicate of a range of policy areas. Lead on communications work for VIP visits and liaise with departmental press offices. Develops core scripts, public lines and digital/media landscape reports for colleagues.
